MERDEKA

If we were asked on how we define Merdeka, I bet different interpretations would come out. Merdeka might mean determination to one, ambition to another. To some it means teamwork. And others will say focus and commitment. We might draw different inspiration from this day, but our true strength lies in our ability to come together and take our nation to greater heights.

At a glance, from a view of a teenager around my age, most probably the best thing about Merdeka is we celebrate it thus mean it is an entrance to a public holiday. Anyway, beyond this closed and primitive minded, Independence Day definitely means more than that, far away from just a-day-off. Independence always referred to freedom, liberty and rights toward authority. How true is it?

To me, Merdeka or independence means we are free from theft. Theft is the most wretched thing and the pioneer among the other bad deeds. The other sins are various and derived from theft. If we lie, we steal ones’ rights to the truth. If we kill a man, we steal the kids’ rights towards a father and demolish love of a husband to his wife. If we act unfairly, we steal the justice from where it should be implemented. Those are the things that we need to get them rid from our league.

How to abolish theft among us? The answer is to practice altruism. Change from tolerance to acceptance is an excellent approach. In other words, it is a must for us, the new generation to make a change, and to make it comes true, we always to start first, to be the change. As thousand of hands worked to ensure the dream to run our country on our own came true once upon a time, we need the contribution from thousand of hands too, even more from this era to preserve this blessing and gift.

ANYWAY

hope not too late.
